3 "And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper." (NIV)
The tree stands by itself as a seemingly autonomous life form. But beneath the surface its roots invisibly form a connection with the moisture and the minerals that sustain it. The tree is beside the river, seemingly apart from it, but its roots join it to the source of its life. All of us are similarly connected by faith to the Lord as our source of life. But this connection is invisible, intangible, difficult to understand, and easy to deny or simply forget about. We are all seemingly autonomous, standing apart on our own, like a tree. The imagery of tree roots, however, reminds us of our utter dependence on the Lord. Three prophetic promises are birth from this divine connection; fruitfulness, vitality, and prosperity in season.
Stay connected to The Source of Life! The “happy” person spends his time meditating on God’s Word. Reading reaps the wheat, meditation threshes it, grinds it, and makes it into bread. Reading is like the ox feeding; meditation is it digesting when chewing the cud. It is not only reading that does us good but the soul inwardly feeding on it and digesting it. People must have some delight, some supreme pleasure. A person’s heart was never meant to be a vacuum. If not filled with the best things, it will be filled with the unworthy and fruitless. The true Christian has his holy delights, and chief among them is the Word of God. The first step to biblical prosperity is taking pleasure in and meditating on the Promises of God. Will you begin today, to allow the promises of God to saturate your heart? Your prosperity is yoked to your delights and your meditation. Get God in your mind!
