“Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.” - Proverbs 6:6-8
Lazy is defined as unwilling to do work or use energy. This text serves as a direct prohibition against laziness. As Christians we are to be busy, orderly, and fruitful, in our service for the Lord. The Lord in this text offers hope to the sluggard. That hope comes in the form of observation, observing the ways of one of nature’s smallest insects, the ant. The ant has no guide, overseer, or ruler, yet it knows where to go for food, feeds itself in the summer, and stores food for the winter. No one wakes the ant or tells him when to sleep. No one hands the ant a map to locate food or gives him a place to store it in the winter, yet he manages to provide and sustain himself. We as believers should consider the workings of the ant and apply these principles to our daily lives. The ant lives a busy and productive life and so should we.
