1 " Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven." (NIV)
In this verse, Jesus is teaching valuable Life Principles as it pertains to what to give and how to give within the parameters of the His kingdom. Every believer is required by scripture to incorporate these principles in their Christian experience. The Word Poor must be qualified in this text. We all need help sometimes, but that doesn’t necessarily qualify one as being poor. Poor is lacking sufficient money or resources to live at a standard considered comfortable or normal in a society. Worse than is usual, expected, or desirable; of a low or inferior standard or quality. The believer is required by script to give Alms to the poor. Alms can be money, food, or other donations given to the poor or needy, or anything given as charity.
Here’s a few questions this text answers: What to give? Alms. How to give? Not to be seen. Who’s giving? You the believer. Who are you giving to? Men. The fruit of giving? Heavenly reward! So let us give in obedience.
