The Battle is NOT Yours - 2 Chronicles 20:15

Updated: Mar 25, 2018

“And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.”

King Jehoshaphat and the Nation of Israel were facing an enemy three times its size. The armies of Moab, Ammon, and Mount Seir, joined themselves together to wage war against God’s people. What was King Jehoshaphat to do? What would you do? When faced with a trial or a difficult challenge, we tend to ask ourselves, “What am I going to do?” Even well-meaning family members will come along and ask, “What are you going to do?” King Jehoshaphat gives us a divine prescription on how to defeat our enemies God’s way. Jehoshaphat faced a multitude of enemies. But instead of focusing on what he would do, he prayed, “O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.” (2 Chronicles 20:12) Then he turned his eyes to God, and focused on God’s goodness and not the actions and attitude of his enemy.

Next he positioned himself to “stand still and see the salvation of the Lord…” (2 Chronicles 20:15, 17) But standing still is the last thing we want to do when the enemy is coming against us. It is also the most difficult thing to do because we feel that we cannot just stand around and do nothing—we want to somehow resolve the problem ourselves. But God wants us to stand still and watch Him fight for us. So what do you do the next time you are faced with a battle and don’t know what to do? Stand Still and See! Finally, The Lord tell King Jehoshaphat to appoint singers to go before the army and proclaim His praise, “Praise the Lord, for His mercy endures forever.” (2 Chronicles 20:21) Right now where you are begin to give God praise for your enemy is already defeated. Do what the situation requires, but don’t worry and don’t trust in what you do. Like Jehoshaphat, rest and trust in His mercy that’s everlasting. God will turn your battlefield into Blessing! Do you have a battle to fight? Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord!
